The build record

This is the factual record of my 2015 GMC Sierra 1500 and the engine combinations it has carried. The truck is also the development mule behind TuneView, but this page is about the hardware, the failures, and what the evidence can actually support. Where a cause remains uncertain or a change is not finished, it is labeled that way.

Current configuration — as reported July 26, 2026

The truck was reported with a 416-cubic-inch supercharged V8. Golen Engine Service built the 416 short block around a new GMPP casting, and Whipple rebuilt the supercharger before the combination went back into the truck.

The purpose is not to declare a combination finished forever. It is to maintain a dated record of what is installed, what changed, and what the next evidence showed.

How it reached this point

The truck was already modified when I bought it. At that time it had a Baja Kits front race kit, King shocks, a Giant rear four-link, a Currie F9 rear axle, and 37-inch tires. Those parts belong to the truck's pre-Ryan history and should not be represented as work I originally designed or installed.

Its L83-based engine had a Texas Speed VVT-delete cam and valvetrain components while retaining factory lifters, pistons, and rods. That engine failed in December 2024 following a Johnson Valley trip.

The exact initiating cause is still unknown. An oil-pump failure remains a hypothesis, but there was no oil-pressure trace because I did not yet own HP Tuners equipment. The teardown showed what was damaged; it could not establish what happened immediately before the noise began.

The first replacement was a forged 6.2-liter LT1-based combination using a Camaro-sourced block, built by Golen. A later lifter-related decision required top-end work and cleanup, including bearings, a ball hone, and vapor cleaning of the heads and pistons. That combination then ran for nearly a year before the supercharger seized.

Out of caution, I returned to Golen for the new 416 short block and sent the Whipple back to its manufacturer for a full rebuild. That is the combination documented in the July 2026 update.

Why every drive gets logged

The missing oil-pressure trace from the original failure permanently limited the diagnosis. That experience changed the operating method: create the evidence before it is needed. The long version is Why I Log Every Drive.

From January through June 2026, the 416 accumulated 192 datalogs representing essentially every drive — pulls, highway miles, errands, and ordinary uneventful use. The unremarkable files matter because they create a clean baseline against which an unusual event can be compared.

The method remains simple: establish a baseline, change one variable, log again, and compare. The broader reasoning is covered in The 416 Philosophy.

Mentioned, but technical details pending

The public build thread also identifies THP port injection, an interchiller, and a fully built 6L80 transmission. They remain pending here until their exact components, installation state, configuration, and supporting photos are documented. They are not yet detailed enough for a definitive specification table.

Planned or in progress

Parts had been collected for a separate 10-rib supercharger drive after recurring belt slip and snapped belts. The final belt routing and installation status have not yet been documented and should not be represented as complete.

Frame issues were also being addressed when the current engine combination was reported. That work remains in progress until its scope and completion are confirmed.
